Ed is a racer that never quite made it behind the wheel, but has excelled for more than 30 years
under the hood and in the garage. Ed has been on several championship-winning teams, including that of Brian Hoar, a
multi-time ACT Late Model Tour champion, and Ron Barcomb, a former Catamount Stadium, Oxford Open, and Vermont Milk Bowl
champion.
Ed drove in the Hurricane division in the early 1970s against the likes of Dave Whitcomb, Norm Andrews,
Richard Buzzi, Larry Caron, and many of Vermont's greatest drivers. After a few years, he gave the Hurricanes a rest
and focused his attention on Barcomb's team, winning the 1976 Milk Bowl at Thunder Road and the 1981 Open Competition title
at Maine's Oxford Plains Speedway against some of the toughest racers on the eastern seaboard.
Ed worked with Brett Wheeler in the late 1980s and early 1990s before moving to the Doug and Brian Hoar
team. Ed also decided to give racing another try in 1992, and built a car for the new Late Model division at Thunder
Road and Airborne Speedway. Running on a part-time basis with a shoestring budget, Ed gabbed a few Top 15 finishes in
1992 and 1993 before selling the car. During that time, Doug Hoar won 6 Airborne events, Brian won over 20 features
across New England, New York and Canada, and took the ACT championships in 1993 and 1997 with Ed turning the wrenches.
He stepped aside from the Hoar team in 1998 to help build his son Eddy's career, and was behind Eddy
every step of the way up through their great 2003 season. Ed tried racing a third time in 2001-02 at Airborne,
and earned the only win of his career in a heat race driving Eddy's car in 2001.
Ed also worked with Jacob McGrath on the ACT Late Model Tour for two years, and returned to the Brett Wheeler
team in 2004. Ed now serves as the spotter for ACT rookie Scott Payea, and the pair have earned Top 5 finishes
in each of their first two races together.
